Cafe Taza Birthday

I posted about my identity design for Cafe Taza in Buffalo back on January 26th. Taza is having a 5th birthday party on February 25th. These are the handbills I designed for the event.

Logo System for Cafe Taza

I don't know why I haven't posted this before, but the logo system for my tiny neighborhood cafe is one of my favorite projects of the last 12 months. It took a while for the various elements to come together and there is still the website to do, and some other promotional materials. I really love this place, I've been a regular there for the last couple years. It's so small that you can't really have a private conversation so everybody has to interact. You end up getting to know a really diverse group of people. Stop by if you find yourself near the corner of Allen and Elmwood in Buffalo New York.

Daily Book Graphics #104 / Trademark Designs

These logos are from Yusaku Kamekura's book Trademark Designs of the World. The book was originally published in 1975 and reprinted by Dover in 1980. Paul Rand's forward to this edition focuses on the Japanese approach to design (See DBG #52 for Japanese family crests), despite the fact that most of the logos are European. Kamekura (1915-1997) was a big time Japanese graphic designer, one of his more famous projects was the design of the graphic identity for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Daily Book Graphics #100 / Monograms

I don't recall where I found this 1927 book, but clearly it had spent a lot of time in a moldy place. It contains some useful guidance and nice examples of the Art Nouveau style.I found this slip of paper in the book, at some point someone was trying to design a monogram for the initials M.F.F. I wonder when these were drawn 1935? 1970? we'll never know.
