Daily Book Graphics #952

©1969 / The credit on the back cover reads: The design on the cover is based on the author's diagram of color serialization. Color interaction is much stronger in the upper section, with squares inside squares, than in the lower section, with circles in the squares (see p. 165).
There is a publisher's note that the author died after signing off on the manuscript, illustrations and captions but before drafting the acknowledgements. Quite sad.

Daily Book Graphics #950

©1973 / Design: Frank Nofer / I had seen this cover on Flickr a couple years ago but I just acquired my own copy this week. I think this is one of the most remarkable covers I've posted and one of the weirdest books. It is a "novel" about the end times complete with timelines and charts and illustrated with stock photos. This particular copy was signed by the author.

Reader's of this blog may know that I'm on a lonely quest to find as many covers by John+Mary Condon as I can. I have a Flickr group dedicated to their work that has just five members and only one contributor, me. I'm fascinated by their ultra disciplined modernist practice. I find that their work ranges from brilliant to boring the first book above is an example of the former, the second, an example of the latter.
